Full course description

This non-graduate credit, six-week, fully online short course focuses on diversity issues in children’s literature (birth to age 14), including the definition, characteristics, and examples of diversity. Activities, assignments, and discussion topics will include such areas as identification and evaluation of diversity, building diverse collections, diversity clusters, and collection promotion, among others.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
Recognize the broad scope of “diversity” and apply it broadly to children’s literature.
Identify and evaluate quality children’s literature that represents diversity.
Build a high-quality reading list of children’s literature based on a specific subset of diverse books.
